The LUMETRON HD-07 Hot Deformation Test Set, from LUMETRONICS, is designed and manufactured to carry out safety tests specified in many IEC and other standards for verifying compliance to pressure applied on insulating materials at high temperature.

The specimens are tested by means of the test apparatus. This apparatus has a rectangular blade with an edge 0.7mm wide, to be used in the case of round specimens, or a blade having a round shape with a diameter of 6mm and an edge of 0.7mm, in other cases. The specimens are placed as shown. A loading force is applied through the blade with the help of a set of loading masses. The force applied depends on the values specified in the applicable specifications. The whole apparatus, with the specimen in position, is maintained for a specified period of time in a heating cabinet (oven) at the specified temperature.

The time period is usually 1 to 2 hours, and the temperature between 70°C to 200°C. At the end of the time period, the specimen is removed from the apparatus and, within 10sec, cooled by immersion in cold water. The thickness of the insulation or the depth of the impression made is measured immediately at the point of impression.
